Bartholomew County Ghost & UFO Stories

A Self-Guided Tour from the Bartholomew County Historical Society

Every community has stories that get passed along after the lights go down. This self-led tour gathers some of Bartholomew County's best-loved tales of the unexplained, from a helpful spirit at the Crump Theatre and a gambler's ghost at the old East Columbus club house to haunted bridges, shadowy cemeteries, and strange lights over Hope and Camp Atterbury.

Some stories come from local legend, some from investigators and visitors, and others from old newspaper clippings. They are folklore as much as history, and we share them as part of our heritage rather than as proven fact. Whether you're a believer, a skeptic, or simply curious, we invite you to draw your own conclusions.

Before you go: Many of these sites are private property, businesses, or active places of worship. Please view private locations from public roads, follow all posted signs and local laws, and visit cemeteries and parks only during daylight hours.

Enjoy the tour, and keep your eyes (and your camera) ready.
